I have been a part-time Chinese mandarin tutor in Sydney for a while. I can teach both children and adults. Most of my students started from very basic Chinese pinyin, phonetics, vocabularies, and sentence strutures as they did not know Chinese before. Now they have made great progress and can converse in Simple Chinese not only in speaking but also writing. I can understand language learning is not an easy progress, as a teacher it is important to find effective ways of teaching depending on different characteristic of different students and being patient to the students at the same time. As a tutor it is easy to run through these sorts of subjects like a mathematics equation. There is , however, always a great deal of understanding needed in order to 'get into' philosophy or sociology. I can know that "Pi r squared" finds the area of a circle but in philosophy this isn's enough; we need to know why and how, we need to get to a stage of understanding that doesn't manifest its self in a Simple equation.
