Tutoring prices

  • Prices are freely agreed between the student/parents and the tutors.
That means we don't set any requirements. This allows tutoring seekers and tutors to mutually agree on an hourly rate in the initial conversation in a fair way.
(*unverbindliche Erfahrungswerte) (Similarly in Switzerland.)
Below are some non-binding estimates for one-on-one lessons, based on experience:
~ Hourly rate
 ~ Hourly rate for: € / 60 Min. € / 90 Min.
Primary school 8,90 14,00
Secondary school (Realschule) 10,00 15,00
Grammar school (Gymnasium) 12 - 18 18 - 27
University 09 - 30 21 - 40
professional training 12 - 40 22 - 60
private continuing education 10 - 30 15 - 45
Travel expenses may be added if the lessons take place at the student's location.

Online lessons can be cheaper than one-to-one tutoring on site, for example because travel is eliminated.
Group lessons and mini-group lessons are usually significantly cheaper but may not be equally effective as individual lessons.

Of course, (mini-)group lessons are offered by privately organized tutors with up to 2–4 students (school friends or fellow students).

In general, please bear in mind that the effort required for a short-notice or one-off intensive session is usually much higher than for regular accompanying lessons.
Tutors need to prepare, and the preparation time for short-notice intensive sessions is often higher than the actual lesson time. Please take this into account when discussing compensation with the tutor.
The same applies to matching: arranging short-notice individual appointments, e.g. a few days before an exam, generally requires more work from the matching team because we invest extra effort on the student's behalf, research, call, and sometimes work evenings and weekends.

The prices for lessons are negotiated personally with the providers (tutors) and can, for example, depend on the following criteria: travel distance, requirements, time period, level, preparation time, number of students, frequency, etc.
This allows you to negotiate terms that are satisfactory for both parties.

A connection is considered to be successful only when there is a minimum of one further lesson after the first trial-lesson (see terms & conditions). Or if from the start only a single appointment is planned (for example an emergency session the afternoon before an important exam). Such explicit one-off appointments are usually relatively urgent and therefore require more effort from us as the placement service and usually also from the teacher. You could say that the placement work for a single appointment that was not arranged as an introductory meeting is generally more time-consuming than for a long-term placement.
nachhilfe-vertrauen
The trial lesson is already a service and should be fully paid.
Please discuss this in advance.

To ensure quality and continuity of lessons and to improve our service, we will ask about the course and customer satisfaction after some time in writing or via an online survey (quality assurance). There are no additional costs associated with this. You can block the invitation to the quality survey at any time with a single click.

How much do tutoring lessons cost?

The hourly rate is freely agreed between tutor and student. We do not set prices. We only arrange the contact. This way the terms can be agreed individually, freely & fairly.

You may be able to find tutors who offer tutoring from 10 EUR/60 min. However, please consider that these tutors might drop out for the next better‑paid job and may not always be able to devote much attention to lesson preparation if, for example, they need the job to finance their studies. The typically negotiated hourly rate is on average between 10–45 EUR depending on location, subject, qualifications, preparation effort and travel time. There are also cheaper or more expensive providers. The tutor may offer a discount if it’s a family with many children and limited financial means, while in another case they may charge more or even should.
Please consider: A tutor who charges 27 EUR/h may be able to be more effective in the short term than a tutor who charges only 12 EUR and has to fit tutoring between two other side jobs.

We recommend, if financially possible, paying the tutor well so they can fully focus on the individual student and not have to rush from one tutoring appointment to the next, for example to finance their tuition fees.

Make a call with the instructor as a trial lesson. It should be clear in the previous phone call or after the first lesson if the price seems too high or the learning chemistry is not good enough. The mediation is free!

A note about the trial lesson:

Although there are tutors who voluntarily offer a free trial lesson or a free introductory meeting, the trial lesson should already be paid for (possibly at a reduced rate), because getting to know the student and the learning situation is already work. Analyzing the learning situation, familiarizing and empathizing with the student’s situation and the existing learning material are already productive steps toward improvement.

Whether 100% is learned in the first lesson or not, the first lesson is considered a "trial lesson" from a placement perspective. After a second teaching appointment the placement is considered successful. The same applies, for example, in the case of a one-off "emergency session" (e.g. 2 consecutive hours the evening before an exam), because the placement effort is not smaller here but rather particularly high = more valuable! ;-)

If you are not satisfied with the suggested tutors and do not start or continue lessons after an e-mail contact, phone call, or the first trial lesson, the placement remains 100% free!
